Ms. Mellissa Johnson

Mellissa A Johnson has been appointed Office Coordinator, leading recovery operations in Barbuda following Hurricane Irma’s impact on the island. Prior, Ms. Johnson worked as Programme Associate in the UNDP Antigua and Barbuda Project Office where she supported project implementation.

In the recovery context, during Hurricane Irma Mellissa rolled out several programs and activities within shelters and communities and was instrumental in the creation of psychosocial support programs and creation of a safe spaces for the children of Barbuda.

Ms. Johnson has a background in accounting and worked for several years in the field. She has also had years of project management experience, having worked as the Program Officer for the Antigua Office of the Regional NGO - Caribbean HIV AIDS Alliance. Ms. Johnson has further worked as Project Coordinator for the Antigua Planned Parenthood Association working with vulnerable populations and, during her tenure as Health and Wellness Director at the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross, she was responsible for ensuring that the Health & Wellness Department complimented the National Health System; ensuring the needs of the community were met through, the design, implementation and delivery of proactive health care services, initiatives, programs and activities.

Considering herself to be a passionate community servant with the ability to motivate and inspire individuals in identifying their potential, Mellissa is currently pursuing her Project Management Professional certification with the Project Management Institute.
