ACCELERATOR LAB FOR BARBADOS AND THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN
The "Blue Economy and Sustainable Management of Ocean Degradation Lab is part of the world’s largest and fastest learning network that the UNDP is building to address development challenges in a new era where changes are happening at an accelerated rate.
The mission of The Accelerator Lab for Barbados and Eastern Caribbean is to promote out-of-the-box thinking and experimentation; supporting Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This is done with a primary focus on the Caribbean countries towards the sustainable development of their ocean-based economic sectors.
The Accelerator Lab for Barbados and Eastern Caribbean is comprised of three core members. This includes a Head of Exploration, Head of Solutions Mapping and Head of Experimentation.
Nikola Simpson joins the team as Head of Exploration. Nikola brings knowledge and experience in the blue economy with a focus on conservation and sustainability. Nikola is passionate about being an intermediary between people and policy. She holds a B.Sc. in Marine & Freshwater Biology from the University of Guelph and a M.Sc. in Natural Resource and Environmental Management at UWI.
Jordanna Tennebaum has taken on the role of Head of Solutions Mapping. Jordanna has a background in the private sector, having worked in brand strategy on portfolio management, project management, trend scoping and consumer analysis. Jordanna holds a B.A. in Political Science from McGill University and a Masters in Journalism from Carleton University.
Kevin Simmons has undertaken the role of Head of Experimentation. Kevin has a background in the private sector in engineering and technology with experience in renewable energy, project management, and venture capital. Kevin holds a B.S. in Ocean Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, M.S. and M. Eng. degrees from Stanford University, and business degrees from Rice University (EMBA), and the University of Oxford (PGDip).

Communities and Innovators that promote the values of the Blue Economy through innovative ideas are at the core of The Blue Lab. They are already finding solutions to some of the development challenges that our society faces. Below are some of the key areas where The Accelerator Lab is ready to support:
The Lab is based at the UNDP Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. The Lab's primary geographical scope is Barbados, the British Virgin Islands and Dominica . However, it is hoped that The Lab will expand to support other SIDS in the Caribbean and across the globe.
The Federal Republic of Germany, the State of Qatar, represented by the Qatar Fund for Development, and UNDP’s core partners are the founding investors of the Accelerator Labs Network.

BLUE ADVISORY BOARD
The Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Accelerator Lab believes in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnership for the Goals). In such it has assembled the Blue Advisory Board made up of various entities to support the strategic direction of the lab.
