Play It Out 2 Phase It Out- Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly’s Global Campaign against Plastic Pollution

As part of a global initiative led by the President of the UN General Assembly to #BeatPlasticPollution, a music festival ‘Play it Out’, set for 1 June 2019 on the island of Antigua and Barbuda will bring together musicians, artists, celebrities, policy leaders and innovators to raise awareness and inspire action on the issue of plastic pollution.

The concert is organized by the President of the General Assembly along with the Governments of Antigua and Barbuda, and Norway, as well as UN Environment, UNOPS, the Krimm Group (TKG) and Lonely Whale's Adrian Grenier. ‘Play it Out’ will take place at the Sir Vivian Richards National Stadium and will be live-streamed globally.

In addition to supporting global advocacy, ‘Play it Out’ will recognize concrete initiatives that are helping to address the problem of plastic pollution, including UN Environment’s ‘Clean Seas Campaign’, as well as help accelerate action on the Caribbean Plastic Action Plan.

Soca king Machel Montano and Grammy-Award winning singer and actress Ashanti will headline the concert. They will be joined by artists from around the world, including DJ Robin Schulz; R&B duo, Nico & Vinz; indie-rock band St. Lucia; Colombian electro-pop sensation Bomba Estereo; Australian pop-star and UNDP Ocean Advocate Cody Simpson; and Ghana’s Reggae star Rocky Dawuni. The concert will be hosted by Actress Meagan Good and advocate Amanda Cerny.

The festival is part of a broader campaign led by the President of General Assembly, who earlier this year launched a global call to action on plastic pollution, as well as an initiative to ban single use plastics at UNHQ. The campaign focuses on phasing out the use of single-use plastics and aims to raise awareness of the impact of plastics on the environment and human health.
