UN Secretary General Tours Caribbean LED Lighting

Jul 6, 2015

The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon today toured Caribbean LED Lighting which is a manufacturing company headquartered in Barbados. Caribbean LED Lighting has committed to reducing their carbon footprint and helping customers do the same by producing LED lighting and distributing throughout the region.

Upon completion of his tour, the Secretary-General noted that the innovation and creative ideas he saw were required. He further encouraged the company’s efforts by stating “even though you are a small company, what you’re doing is great. Barbados is one of the champions and by 2020 you can be top five in the leading users of solar energy on a per capita basis.” The Secretary-General aligned Caribbean LED’s efforts with key UN focal points including financing for development and the sustainable development goals.

With a keen focus on energy efficiency, the UNDP Sub-regional office for Barbados and the OECS oversess the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Lighting Project (CEELP). For more information on CEELP please click here.
