    ICCAS: A progressive start to 2015

    The UNDP-ICCAS team recently concluded its Climate Change Awareness Workshop on March 18th - 19th, 2015 in collaboration with the OECS Secretariat. During this session participants were exposed to a range of focal areas impacted by the changes occurring in the climate and engaged on the application of possible adaptation techniques.

And with major shocks such as hurricanes so common, how can countries better plan for such emergencies? And will the international community make sure that adequate finance is made available to countries impacted by such tragedies?

    GEF SGP team provides project implementation support to grantees

    Attracting over 20 participants the Grantee Project Inception Workshop sought to provide grantees guidance on project technical and financial reporting, best practices sound record keeping and procurement of goods and services, monitoring and evaluation. It was also an opportunity for grantees to highlight their project activities and to share their experiences with others.

    Portsmouth prepares for tsunami threats

    Portsmouth, Dominica - A simulation exercise, code named “Exercise DomWave 14”, was undertaken to commemorate the 6.3 magnitude earthquake event of 21st November 2004. This exercise tested the public alerting mechanism in the event of a tsunami threat and also provided a platform for the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) to test its tsunami communication protocols and community response activities that will be necessary when responding to a tsunami threat.

    GEF SGP awards grant to OGCA to facilitate the certification of organic farmers

    The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) implemented by UNDP awarded the Organic Growers and Consumers Association (OGCA) with a $US 50,000.00 cheque to implement the project “Organic Certification for Organic Farmers in Barbados” during the official project launch on 15 September 2014 at the Bellairs Research Institute.

    UN-funded Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bus Shelter Launched

    Disability is an important cause and consequence of poverty. In the region, disabled people continue to fight against discrimination in their social, economic and political lives. On 3 September 2014, the launch of a bus shelter in Barbados aims to help raise public awareness of the rights on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

    UN Major Groups Established Through Dialogues with Civil Society Organisations in Barbados

    On July 30th 2014, the “Civil Society Organizations’ (CSOs) Consultation on Small Island Developing States and Post-2015 Development Agenda”, which was hosted by the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) – Barbados Chapter and funded by Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), led to the adoption of the UN Major Group framework. Over 40 representatives of CSOs in Barbados participated in the dialogue session and provided meaningful inputs into the development of the national position for the upcoming Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States and Post-2015 Development process.
